5.Industry background
In July 2023, General Secretary Xi Jinping stressed at the National Conference on Ecological Environmental Protection that: to accelerate the modernisation of harmonious coexistence between human beings and nature, we should continue to fight the battle of pollution prevention and control, and adhere to the precise treatment of pollution, scientific treatment of pollution and treatment of pollution in accordance with the law. In the ‘Carbon peaking and carbon neutrality goals’ background and the concept of circular economy development continues to guide, China will accelerate the construction of plastic products recycling system, support the non-degradable disposable plastic products alternative materials and products research and development and application; all over the country are also in the organisation of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment to start the industrial parks of water pollution remediation of the special action. Environmental protection materials and water treatment related industries have ushered in a brand new development opportunity.
China's government attaches great importance to the development of bio-based materials industry, and has introduced a series of support policies, including: ‘14th Five-Year Plan formulation’ Industrial Green Development Plan (Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, 2021) and so on. From the industry chain perspective, the upstream of the bio-based materials industry chain includes renewable biomass raw materials such as grains, legumes, straw, etc.; the midstream is the production of bio-based materials; and the downstream is the application field, including packaging, catering, textile, and other industries. By 2022, China's biobased materials market size reached 34.86 billion RMB, representing a year-on-year growth of 26.6%. In terms of regional structure, the eastern region has a higher number of enterprises, especially the Bohai Rim, Yangtze River Delta and Pearl River Delta zones, which have become the main production bases of China's bio-based materials industry due to their favourable geographical location and advanced manufacturing base. With the continuous progress of science and technology and the increasing awareness of environmental protection, bio-based materials have a broad market prospect and great potential for development.
6.Review of the previous exhibition
The Pulp & Paper Industry & Biodegradable Materials, Paper-Based Materials & Food Paper Packaging, Water Treatment Chemicals Technology & Application Exhibition 2024 (PC BDM Expo 2024) was successfully held on 27-29 May 2024 at Shanghai World Expo Exhibition & Convention Center. More than 200 exhibitors participated in this exhibition, including industry leaders such as PetroChina, Sinochem Aiken, Shandong Carey, Shandong Taihe, Anhui Tianrun, Zhejiang Transfar, Hanghua Halima, Galaxy Paper, Yueyang Linpaper, Guanhao Hi-Tech, Royal Horse Science and Technology, Dongda Specialty Paper, Wealthy New Materials, Hengshi Pumps, and Sibelle Energy Equipment, as well as leading companies such as the Indonesian Pulp and Paper Association (IPPA), Laos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LNCCI), and the Korea Federation of Commerce and Industry (KFCCI). （Indonesia Pulp and Paper Association (IPPA), Lao Federation of Commerce and Industry (LNCCI) and South Korea BEXCO Group and other official organisations organised a total of 18 overseas enterprises to participate in the exhibition. The exhibition attracted more than 15,000 professional visitors from 19 countries, including Japan, Russia, India, South Korea, the United Arab Emirates and Vietnam, representing a 78% year-on-year increase in the number of visitors compared with the previous exhibition.
During the same period, the exhibition will hold Green Paper Innovation and Development Forum, High Concentration Chemical Wastewater Deep Treatment and Recycling Conference, Pulp Moulding Innovative Technology and Green Packaging Application Summit Forum, Biodegradable Plastic Products and Technology Application Forum, and Innovative Application of Paper-based Functional Materials and Food Paper Packaging Summit Forum (referred to as Paper-based and Packaging Forum). Among them, the Paper-Based and Packaging Forum has been upgraded to an international forum, where guests from Indonesia, France and Germany have delivered professional reports.
